Thanksgiving
I usually think about the smell of food on thanksgiving, but this year I am thinking a little more on the family and what the true meaning of the season is. I think that we need to give thanks for the country that we live in and the food that is provided on most of our tables. We get so caught up in the shopping for Christmas, really Thanksgiving has a whole new meaning to me. Most of my family I do not even get to spend the holidays with because they live in another state. Any time that I do get to spend some time with them that is my Thanksgiving or Christmas. The holiday season is upon us so think about what they really mean to you and not so much the material things in life more about the family and getting to spend it together. I just thought about this as something for people to really analyze in their lives.

Our family has come to view Thanksgiving and Christmas as a time to reach out in service to those less fortunate. We cannot always get together because we are very spread out and cannot always afford to travel or work gifts and postage into our budgets. Therefore, we made a family pledge to spend our time in service to others and only send gifts for the children.
ReplyDeleteLast Thanksgiving, I helped served food to the homeless in downtown Memphis with three of my daughters. I felt very blessed to serve with them. We also did Yoga that morning and went for a walk in the woods. We had a light lunch of pumpkin soup and I do not even remember what else.
This year I may be on a road trip on my way home to FL in my daughter's car. I can leave early enough to make it home to FL. We serve food to the hungry with a group called "Nations."
If I do not leave in time, I may caravan with some friends who are driving to New Orleans so I do not make the entire trip alone. Then, I would probably spend some time with them and drive on after the holiday along the gulf.
Not sure yet. Might just stay in Memphis until after Thanksgiving.
